Gutter Guards Case Studies: New MasterShield System on Custom Home in McLean, VA

The customer at this location in McLean, VA. was having issues with overflow and ice slides on his new home.  The gutters themselves were under 6 months old and half rounds.  The downspouts fed into an underground drain where it exited at the road.  

When we evaluated the gutter system, the first thing we noticed was the half round style.  Although they may look nice, the style does not control water like a k-style does.  Half round gutters create a turbulence effect with the water causing overflow.  While looking around the home, we noticed a couple gutters falling off the home.  The homeowner informed us it was due to an ice slide over the winter.  Even though he had ice breakers on the roof, the ice slide still took out the gutter system.  In order to solve the issue of water control and ice slides, we recommended increasing the size and changing to a k-style gutter system.  This would allow the water to be controlled and channeled out quickly.
