After procrastinating way too long with deteriorating gutters and watching the edge of my roofline impersonate Niagara Falls during storms, I decided to address the problem by contacting Mastershield. Prior to doing so, I had performed detailed research on the internet, comparing various gutter systems with a specific eye to performance over time. My research led me to Mastershield, and specifically to Tom Kahn's family-run gutter installation business which just happened to be "down the street" from us.

Tom came out in late March, performing a walk around with me, detailing his opinion on what needed fixing and what didn't. He recommended upsizing the lower front gutters and downspouts to 6" from 5" due to the runoff from the upper story. The integrity of the remaining gutters was fine, and he recommended only installing Mastershield on those, after making sure they were completely cleaned out first. Tom's demeanor was professionally relaxed with no sales pressure whatsoever. It was a pleasant experience.

After the walk-around, Tom spent some time crafting an estimate on the spot and then discussed each line item with me and gave me a price for the entire job, including the Angie's List discount. The estimate of $4K was in the ballpark of what I had expected. The final price matched the estimate exactly.

The job was scheduled for April 8th. The crew showed up and performed all of the work in a single day. They were professional and had a high level of expertise. There were no additional problems or issues that cropped up during installation. Near the end of the day, the lead installer performed a post-installation walk-around with me, showing and explaining exactly what they did. Everything in the contract was fulfilled.
The one minor drawback, which has been noted by some other reviewers, is that not all of the trash was removed after job completion. It wasn't a big deal, as it took me less than 5 minutes to pick up a couple of the old mesh guards that had been discarded, along with a bag of other trash and a couple of excess scraps left on the lawn. I informed Tom, who was very apologetic and stated that he would reemphasize the clean-up issue with the crew. Again, it was no big deal, but it was one area that I noted could be improved.

So what's the bottom line? Let's just say that we've had a couple of big rain events, one of which dumped 5 inches of rain (!) on us, and the gutters performed flawlessly. I cannot tell you how gratifying it was to see the end of Niagara Falls and not have to worry about potential foundation damage now that all the water is being redirected properly. Also, I have noted no problem with "tree trash" during springtime, potentially interfering with the Mastershield system. There have been no blockages or issues with runoff to date.

The recommendation to upgrade the front gutters to 6 inches was excellent. I'm incredibly happy with the entire job and its results. The price was not cheap, but I'll gladly pay a little extra for top quality, and top quality is exactly what I received. Thanks to Tom and the crew!

Installed gutter guards over existing gutters on very high gutters to prevent leafs/debris from clogging the gutters. These are locations that where I could not safely reach the gutters. They voluntarily, at no cost, did a second gutter, leading to a total length that was a bit greater than what I purchased. I was very surprised and pleased that Mastershield felt it was important to do this to protect this section of the roof as well.

Called and got an appointment for estimate very quickly. Tom came out and looked at my house and immediately noticed that my gutters were too small for the overhang that the installers left when I had my roof redone. I had previously done research on Mastershield and was impressed with the mock-up and could see how it would work. Installing Mastershield would have required all of the gutters to be dropped to properly get the slope to match the roof slope, Tom instead gave us an excellent price on replacing all of the gutters which made more sense. I have maple trees with helicopters, and all kinds of other trees that seem to clog up gutters, and my old shields weren't getting the job done. A crew of 6 showed up at 8 AM and did a superb job of pulling everything off and starting from scratch. The new gutters are beautiful, there are no nails protruding from the finish side, and the Mastershield fits tight and clean. I don't see how anything other than water can ever possibly get in the new gutters. They are also made such that there is no way that pesky squirrels or birds could ever breach them. Don't expect the gutters to work any better than the others did, but going from 5 to 6", have more capacity when we get the frogstrangler rains that seem come more often these days. The total cost was pretty expensive in a way, but I expect it all to be trouble-free in the future. Overall, an excellent experience, and thanks to the team.

Our first floor was flooded during the April 30 storm. Our insurance agent had a similar problem and had 6 inch gutters installed that eliminated the problem. We decided to pursue that route and contacted Master Shield for information and an estimate. Tom Kahn came to our home, explained everything in great detail and set up the installation for the following week. His installer came out on time and proceeded to install the new gutter system. David was incredibly professional and thorough in his work.

He completed the job before the May 15th storm hit. The gutters worked flawlessly. Had they not been installed that day, we would have been flooded for a second time in two weeks. We cannot praise this group enough. This business stands by its product and workmanship. A true pleasure to work with such a competent team.

From initial visit and estimate through final walkthrough everything went great despite the poor weather. The Mastershield and its benefits over other competing products were thoroughly explained to us. The installation crew was outstanding and professional. They arrived on time and their work was great. Would use them again. Going to replace other deteriorating wood trim with synthetic and will use them for that also. Got to see it in action when heavy rain moved into the area and it was great, no more overflowing and flooding our basement walkout area. Water was directed to where it should go. Have large trees all around the house, Virgina pines, Oaks and other varieties. Will not have to worry again about climbing up high multiple times a year to clean out the gutters by hand.

Tom came to the house to inspect the gutters and provide a quote. He paid attention to the details and pointed out places he could help improve the house's appearance with respect to the gutters. His quote turned out to be less expensive than his main competitor; which helped make my decision easier.

Tom had to reschedule the installation date once. The second appointment was within days of the original and went off smoothly. His team cleaned the gutters, made some small adjustments to down spouts, and installed the Gutter Guards. When Tom's team finished they cleaned up after themselves. Everyone was professional. Couldn't ask for a smoother installation.

The gutters look great. The days before Thanksgiving there was a strong rainstorm that gave me the chance to look at the gutters in action. So far (which is only a few weeks), the gutters are not clogged with leaves. The rain didn't run off the roof but fell into the gutters as designed. So far so good. :)

The contractors arrived on time, worked efficiently and did a great job. I was very impressed by their customer service when they corrected a mistake made by the factory with a box that was incorrectly labeled "eggshell" when it was really "white". I happened to notice that some of the shields appeared to be lighter in color than another box. The installer Mike immediately phoned the office and another box of eggshell was delivered within 30 min. by the office manager Ashlee. Mike asked the other guy to remove the white ones they had already installed on one side of the house and replace them with the true eggshell color. They handled it with professionalism and were very apologetic even though it was through no fault of their own. I would highly recommend MasterShield Gutters and Guards for their excellent customer service/satisfaction and the pride in which they do their work. Of course they just installed it today so I can't honestly say how the system performs in rainy weather conditions, but it is a windy day and the little helicopters and other debris from the trees seems to be sliding right off the screen instead of sticking in the holes that our old screens had.

After extensive research on gutter systems, requested quote from central MasterShield website. The headquarters follow-up emails were annoying, but the Kahn family who's the distributor in the MD/VA/DC area was a pleasure to deal with. They arrived for the estimate when scheduled and once they understood we'd done our research, the approach was a straight forward presentation of their costs for the needed work.
Most online reviews/testimonies focused on the installation experience and, if anything, a single season of use. We requested and received references of customers who'd had the MasterShield system installed through at least an entire year. Four of the five responded to our queries with ringing endorsements. Three of the respondents had dense tree coverage similar to our property and similar four season concerns - fall leaves; winter snow and ice; spring tree flowers; and, summer torrential rains. The worst problem reported was that the screen is so fine, the shingle grit was passing over during heavy rain necessitating blowing it off the back porch once it dried out. Based on the responses, we decided the product would be worth the relatively high price.

We had the gutters installed after new siding and trim capping was installed by another company. The schedule of the siding work was delayed a week due to weather and the Kahn's were able to work us back into their schedule before the next big rain following completion of the siding work.
We've had the gutters and cover system installed for a little less than a month and couldn't be happier. The leaves are falling and we haven't been up on the roof yet. Normally, cleaning the gutters has been a weekly activity in the fall as well as immediately before any forecast rainfall. We're looking forward to witnessing firsthand, the performance through all four seasons.

We had an issue with gutter overflow causing severe erosion and water intrusion in our basement. Tom did a thorough inspection, identified all of the problem areas on our house and promptly provided an estimate. The installation crew showed up on time and completed the work very quickly. Tom and Matt Kahn both visited after I called them and gave me an estimate, well within others I had obtained. Having seen lots of video on MasterShield I was pretty sure this is what I wanted. They proposed new gutters, to which I said no and they removed them from the estimate. Had a $500 Big Deal coupon from Angies list, which reduced the price and which Tom said was the only time they gave discounts, using the Big Deal.

Installation was scheduled two weeks later. Small problem on the timing of when the installer would come due to rain in the area. Installer was coming from Bowie,MD and I was in Vienna, VA, He kept looking at weather radar, which showed rain in Vienna. However, rain had stopped for some time, seems like upper level clouds with lots of water within reflected as rain. Calls to Tom resolved the delay and the installer and helper came quickly, ladder went up to a simple peaked easy slope roof, old covers removed, gutters reattached, cleaned out, MasterShield installed in less than an hour and everything cleaned up. Has been working fine, no complaint.
